I'm excited to confirm that Rare Ships!!! on Ice will run again for 2018! Here is the approximate schedule - precise dates may shift.
Nominations: April 27 - May 7
Sign-Ups: May 11 - 21
Assignments Out By: May 25
Works Due: July 8
Works Revealed: July 15
Creators Revealed: July 22
Note that this starts about a week later and finishes about a week earlier than last year. For 2017, due to me scheduling around prior commitments, we had an eight-week creating period. That's rather long for a 500-word/nice sketch exchange - a six-week creating period will still give everyone plenty of time to finish their gifts.
Media
RSOI 2017 allowed matching on fanfic, fanart, and podfic as media. I don't think the collection ended up including any podfic, but I'd love to hear from people who requested or offered it last year regarding how you felt about the guidelines there.
I also said I'd consider adding a graphics category for RSOI 2018, if there's enough interest. This would allow participants to request or offer fanworks like icons, wallpapers, banners, edits, manips, etc, as a specialty art category. So... if you're interested, please speak up! I'd also love feedback on reasonable minimums to set. (equivalent effort/results to 500-word fic)

RSOI 2017 allowed any ship with fewer than 500 works on AO3, without any further filtering. But YOI fandom is now another year older, and creators have had more of a chance to finish things! Therefore, I intend to update RSOI 2018's eligibility requirement to: any relationship with fewer than 500 complete works on AO3, counting only works over 500 words in length.
