See who created what and continue browsing the collection here.

If you haven't already, please drop in and thank your creator for your gift. If you run into difficulty or have questions about that, email me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com.

The RSOI 2018 AO3 collection will be open indefinitely. If you're inspired, you're welcome to submit late gifts to the collection.

Most importantly, thank you, everyone! I had a blast running RSOI again, and that is entirely thanks to all of you. I was prepared for a smaller, slower event this year, considering how long it's been since the show came out. I was not prepared for our 25-person participant pool to result in 55 new rare ship works. Seeing the treats flood in over the final week made me so happy.

And I'm still not over the complete lack of pinch hits -- though I know there were people waiting in the wings to snap them up if there were any! Congrats, everyone, and thank you again!
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (chris yuuri)
Gifts are revealed! We have an incredible number of fics and artworks this year - more than twice as many as signups. Click here to enjoy all the new rare ship goodness.

You should have received an email linking to your gift or gifts. You can also check your gifts page here: archiveofourown.org/users/[YOUR USERNAME]/gifts

On the collection works page, you can use the sort/filter bar to find stuff you're interested in, but I'd also recommend just scrolling through everything and seeing what catches your eye! There's some really great stuff for a wide variety of ships, and you might find something you never even knew you needed.

Some reminders:
  • Works will be anonymous for one week! I'll reveal creators next Sunday, July 22 at 8 p.m. In the meantime, keep it secret, keep it safe.
  • Re-date your work so it shows up in the right spot in the fandom tags! See this post for details.
  • Commenting on your gift(s) is nice exchange etiquette, and is required for RSOI. See the rules post for details.
  • If you'll be away from the internet for a significant amount of time post-reveals, you can optionally drop a note about it at the I'll Be Away post.
  • If there's something wrong with your gift (meaning, it violates a DNW; doesn't meet the exchange minimum; or doesn't fit one of your requested ships or mediums) please email me ASAP at rareshipsonice@gmail.com.
Just like last year, I will be posting round-up link posts for each ship to the exchange tumblr over the course of the anon period -- so, one post linking all the SaraMila works, one post linking all the ChrisVic works, etc -- for a bit of extra signal boosting and easy browsing :)
rsoi_mod: seung gil is aghast to be hugged by yuuri (seung gil yuuri)
All assignments are in! Again, I'm amazed we didn't have any pinch hits the entire exchange. You all seriously rock. We're set for the collection to open on time -- that's Sunday, July 15, at 8 p.m. PDT.

Once I reveal the collection, all works will be visible and anonymous. They will also show up in the main fandom and ship tags according to the date you posted the work. The YOI tag moves fast, which means it's likely people not following the exchange won't see it... luckily, there's a solution for that:

Remember to re-date your work!
  1. After reveals, go to the work's "Edit Work" page
  2. Scroll down to the "Associations" section
  3. Click the checkbox for "Set a different publication date"
  4. Set it to the current date
This will bump the work up to the top of the tags, so YOI fans outside the exchange are more likely to see it! You can do this either at work reveals on July 15, or creator reveals on July 22, or really at any point. (Generally speaking, exchange etiquette is to only redate once or twice.)

Comment replies are safely anonymous
If you reply to comments on your work, your replies will show up as "Anonymous Creator" Yes, even though it doesn't say so before you press submit. Those comments will automatically switch to your name after creator reveals on July 22 :)

Treating continues!
If you have some time and want to increase the number of gifts we're looking forward to, consider creating an extra treat! You can browse all the requests here. You are welcome to give treats at any time, before or after reveals.

"I'll Be Away" Post
If you know you'll be away from the internet for a while after reveals, and want to let your gifter know your comment will be delayed due to vacation/having a baby/crying about your thesis/prepping for your annual dark demonic ritual summoning/traveling to a work conference -- you can comment on this post to say so. Please note your AO3 name if it's different from the account you use here.

Basically, this is for "I'll be gone for a week or more" stuff, not "I'm asleep during reveals and at work the next day." It's also optional, either way.
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (Default)
Well done, everyone! I've granted extensions to a couple of people through Wednesday. Other than those extensions, all gifts are in. I will check for placeholders later tonight, but as of right now, we don't need any pinch hits.

(I'm in shock over that, to be honest. You all are awesome.)

What happens next?

Works will be revealed next week, on Sunday, July 15 at 8 p.m. PDT. Creator reveals will be the following week. While we wait, please consider spreading the rare ship love a bit more by finding someone to treat :)

If you're worried about not having a gift and don't see yourself go out to pinch hit, your creator probably has an extension. You're welcome to email me and I can check for you.

As always, if you have any questions, please email me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com!

Heading into the home stretch! I may or may not have a chance to post a one-hour warning later, so please take this as your final call! Works are due today, July 8, at 8 p.m. PDT. The collection will briefly close at that point so I can check for placeholders and incomplete assignments -- then it will reopen so treaters and pinch hitters can continue posting :)

If you have questions about posting, please check the "Posting Your Work" section at the rules post. Please also check out How to Avoid the Shiny New AO3 Bug.

EDIT: also, the collection is set to "moderated" this year so I can more easily scan for potential AO3 bugs. Don't worry if your work doesn't show up in the collection immediately! I'll approve when I have a chance. :)

Works are due this Sunday, July 8, at 8 p.m.

Other Notes:
  • Do not repost your work elsewhere (e.g. on tumblr, twitter, public forums) before creator reveals.
  • You can edit your work after posting it.
  • A saved draft does not count as a posted work. Make sure you have actually posted your work by the deadline.

While you can edit your work after posting, please have a complete work up by the deadline. You can be waiting on a final proofread or touch-up, but do not upload a placeholder gift or anything that would not be an acceptable gift if your recipient received it right then. I will be checking for obvious placeholders and gifts that don't meet the exchange minimum requirements.

Also, congratulations to those who've posted already! If you're looking for something to do next, consider finding someone to treat, or keep an eye out for any post-deadline pinch hits.

We're heading into the home stretch!

Works are due Sunday, July 8, at 8 p.m. PDT.
While you'll still be able to edit your work between the deadline and the reveals date, this should just be for minor tweaks. Please plan to have a complete work up on July 8. Anyone without a work up by that exact hour will be defaulted.

If you realize you won't be able to complete your assignment, please default as soon as you know! The earlier you default, the more time a pinch hitter has to work on the assignment. (If you think you need one more day, I will grant small extensions on a case by case basis, but only if you ask by Saturday, July 7.)

If you have questions about posting, please check the "Posting Your Work" section at the rules post. Please also check out How to Avoid the Shiny New AO3 Bug.

You can also comment here or email me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com with any questions.

Hope everyone is doing well! A few general reminders and notes:

The no-fault default deadline is Sunday, July 1 at 8 p.m. PDT - one week from today!
Things happen! That's okay -- that's what the default button is for. If you know you won't be able to complete your assigned gift, defaulting by July 1 or earlier makes my life easier and helps me find a pinch hitter more easily.

You can still default after July 1, but in that case you will need to create a make-up gift before participating in future rounds of RSOI.

Treats are welcome!
If one assignment isn't enough for your rare ship-creating desires, consider browsing the requests summary for someone to treat! Extra gifts are great for sharing the rare ship love.
rsoi_mod: seung gil is aghast to be hugged by yuuri (seung gil yuuri)
Well, "new" for RSOI -- other exchanges have experienced this over the past year, which is why we know how to avoid it. (shout out to Morbane for letting me adapt her tutorial.)

Like last year, the RSOI collection is set to "unrevealed" and "anonymous" so that the works you submit will stay hidden until the dates on the schedule. However, AO3 currently has a "reveals bug" that occasionally causes submitted works to appear immediately, with your name on it. This is bad, and can spoil the surprise for your recip.

Luckily, there's a solution! By following this tutorial, you can significantly lower the chances that it will affect you. You need to save as a draft to check the work's settings before you finish posting. Here are the basics:
  1. When posting, click "Preview"
  2. Click "Save without posting"
  3. Look for the banner that says "This work is part of an ongoing challenge and will be revealed soon!"
If you see the banner, go ahead and post. If you DON'T see the banner, email me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com and I will fix it :)

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, please read through the in-depth tutorial below, and then comment or email me with any further questions!

Assignments have been sent! You should have received an email from AO3 containing your assignment. You can also check your assignments on your AO3 dashboard, at this link: archiveofourown.org/users/[YOUR USERNAME]/assignments

Your assignment is due on Sunday, July 8 at 8 p.m. PDT. By that point, you need to complete and post a work in one of your recipient's requested mediums for one of their requested ships.

Review the Exchange Info post for the minimum work requirements, how to post, and how to default. If for any reason you're unable to complete your assignment, please default on AO3 as soon as you know.

If you have any questions about your assignment, please contact me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com. I can also convey any questions to your recipient. Please do not contact your recipient directly about their gift!
rsoi_mod: seung gil is aghast to be hugged by yuuri (seung gil yuuri)
I'll have assignments out by May 23, 9 p.m. PDT. There were no unmatchable creators, but I have some family commitments tomorrow (the 22nd) and don't want to send out assignments when I won't be around to check emails.
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (chris yuuri)
Signups close tomorrow! More specifically, that's Monday, May 21 at 8 p.m. PDT. If you haven't signed up, now's the time! See the signup post for further details.

If you have signed up, please take this opportunity to double-check your requests and offers. Make sure you're not accidentally offering the wrong ships or mediums, or requesting "/" when you mean "&."

One general note: please do not ask creators to contact you directly about your signup. Once assignments go out, creators will be able to email me with any questions that I can pass on to recipients. This helps preserve anonymity, lets me write additional decoy questions to avoid spoiling your gift, and gives everyone a bit of buffer so you're not saying "actually, I would hate that" directly to the creator.

Second (related) note: please make sure your AO3 email address is one you can access and regularly check. That is where I will contact you with any questions throughout the event :)
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (chris yuuri)
Signups are open now through Monday, May 21 at 8 p.m. PDT.

Let me know if you have any questions either by commenting on this post or by emailing me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com.

Speaking of emails -- my primary way of contacting participants is via the email attached to your AO3 account. Please make sure this is an email address you currently have access to. The exchange will run much smoother if I'm able to contact everyone when needed.

ETA: please IGNORE the "Character (0 - 1):" field in the offers section. It won't mess anything up, but it's not supposed to be there :)

I'm closing nominations at 8:30 p.m. PDT, which is one hour from the time of this post. Please see this post for nominations instructions and links. This is your last chance to make sure your fave rare ships are in the tag set!

edit: and we're closed! See our final ship list at this spreadsheet. Signups are scheduled to open May 11. (or possibly a bit earlier, depending on how this week goes for me!)
rsoi_mod: seung gil is aghast to be hugged by yuuri (seung gil yuuri)
Nominations are ongoing! For more on what that means and how to do it, see this post.

Now, clarifications time! If you're not familiar with AO3 nominations, as the tagset owner, I can't see who nominated what. All I see are the nominated tags themselves, which I have the choice of accepting, rejecting, or editing+accepting. (You may have noticed me editing some of your tags -- usually to fit AO3 canonical order. This isn't because you did it wrong, it's just a habit for me.)

Since I can't see usernames, that means if I have questions about specific tags, I'll be making clarification posts like this to get more info. These posts are also good places to point out any typos or duplicate tags. You can answer on the post or via email at rareshipsonice@gmail.com.

I just have one question today.

For the tag "Pocha yuuri/gangbang," neither Pocha Yuuri nor Gangbang is a canon character. I'd like at least one canon character listed in any given tag. (further, a gangbang isn't a character - it's more like a party. Tags should clarify who's at the party.)

Are there any more clearly defined tags involving at least one canon character that would work for you instead? Maybe something like "Male Grand Prix Finalists/Pocha Yuuri" or "Yakov Feltsman/Christophe Giacometti/Victor Nikiforov/Pocha Yuuri" etc.
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (Default)
A few hours early. Hope nobody minds :) Nominations will be open now through Monday, May 7 at 8 p.m. PDT.

We're playing nominations on easy mode this year - I've already batch-loaded the entire tag set from last year into the new tag set. This means all ships from last year's set (except the ones newly ineligible) are already in. You're welcome to get creative filling out your nominations.

The Basics

The tagset is here. The nominations form is here.

How to nominate, in three easy steps:
  1. In the "Fandom" box, input "Yuri!!! on Ice (Anime)".
  2. In the relationships boxes, input the relationships you want available in the tagset. You don't have to fill out all 10 slots. (You can also fill out some now, and come back later to fill out more!)
  3. Press submit!
Because the tagset can get hard to read, I have a clearer, alphabetical spreadsheet of accepted ships here. I'll update it periodically throughout nominations.

If you see any typos or other errors in the tagset, let me know! And read through the cut for more about what nominations are, plus a refresher on the RSOI guidelines.
What are nominations + nominations guidelines )
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (chris yuuri)
I'm excited to confirm that Rare Ships!!! on Ice will run again for 2018! Here is the approximate schedule - precise dates may shift.

Nominations: April 27 - May 7
Sign-Ups: May 11 - 21
Assignments Out By: May 25
Works Due: July 8
Works Revealed: July 15
Creators Revealed: July 22

Note that this starts about a week later and finishes about a week earlier than last year. For 2017, due to me scheduling around prior commitments, we had an eight-week creating period. That's rather long for a 500-word/nice sketch exchange - a six-week creating period will still give everyone plenty of time to finish their gifts.

Media
RSOI 2017 allowed matching on fanfic, fanart, and podfic as media. I don't think the collection ended up including any podfic, but I'd love to hear from people who requested or offered it last year regarding how you felt about the guidelines there.

I also said I'd consider adding a graphics category for RSOI 2018, if there's enough interest. This would allow participants to request or offer fanworks like icons, wallpapers, banners, edits, manips, etc, as a specialty art category. So... if you're interested, please speak up! I'd also love feedback on reasonable minimums to set. (equivalent effort/results to 500-word fic)

Rarity
RSOI 2017 allowed any ship with fewer than 500 works on AO3, without any further filtering. But YOI fandom is now another year older, and creators have had more of a chance to finish things! Therefore, I intend to update RSOI 2018's eligibility requirement to: any relationship with fewer than 500 complete works on AO3, counting only works over 500 words in length.

And that's all I've got right now! Feel free to use this post for any questions or discussion about the event :)
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (Default)
Creators have been revealed!
See who created what and continue browsing the collection here.

If you haven't already, please drop in and thank your creator for your gift. If you run into difficulty or have questions about that, email me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com.

Feedback is welcome!
If you have any feedback on things you liked or didn't like about RSOI 2017, please let me know either in the comments on this post or via email. I think things went pretty well, but community input is more than welcome :) Especially because...

I intend to run RSOI 2018 next year!
That is pretty far away, though, so I will check back in early next year with a firm yes or no. If you haven't heard from me by March, feel free to kick me for confirmation. In the meantime...

I will be keeping an eye on the rareshipsonice DW and Tumblr accounts.
If you're running a YOI event you'd like a signal boost for, feel free to message me on either platform and I'm happy to do so. I'll only promote events that allow YOI rare ships -- doesn't have to be exclusively rare ship-focused, but I won't promote an exclusively Victor/Yuuri event, for example.

Also, the RSOI 2017 AO3 collection will be open indefinitely. If you're inspired, you're welcome to submit late gifts to the collection.

Finally, let's close this wrap-up with the most important bit: a round of thank yous.
Three cheers to the pinch hitters, the treaters, the betas, the cheerleaders, the signal boosters. Your help was invaluable. To the readers and commenters, for sharing the post-reveals love. And a tremendous thank you to everyone who signed up. I was blown away by everyone's enthusiasm and the amount of fantastic rare ship gifts you created. Thank you!
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (chris yuuri)
At last, the collection is revealed! Click here to enjoy all the new rare ship goodness.

You should have received an email linking to your gift or gifts. You can also check your gifts page here: archiveofourown.org/users/[YOUR USERNAME]/gifts

On the collection works page, you can use the sort/filter bar to find stuff you're interested in, but I'd also recommend just scrolling through all four pages and seeing what catches your eye! There's some really great stuff for a wide variety of ships, and you might find something you never even knew you needed.

Some reminders:
  • Remember to re-date your work so it shows up in the right spot in the fandom tags!
Final note, I will be posting round-up link posts for each ship to the exchange tumblr over the course of the anon period -- so, one post linking all the SaraMila works, one post linking all the ChrisVic works, etc -- for a bit of extra signal boosting and easy browsing :)
