Creators have been revealed!
See who created what and continue browsing the collection here.

If you haven't already, please drop in and thank your creator for your gift. If you run into difficulty or have questions about that, email me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com.

Feedback is welcome!
If you have any feedback on things you liked or didn't like about RSOI 2017, please let me know either in the comments on this post or via email. I think things went pretty well, but community input is more than welcome :) Especially because...

I intend to run RSOI 2018 next year!
That is pretty far away, though, so I will check back in early next year with a firm yes or no. If you haven't heard from me by March, feel free to kick me for confirmation. In the meantime...

I will be keeping an eye on the rareshipsonice DW and Tumblr accounts.
If you're running a YOI event you'd like a signal boost for, feel free to message me on either platform and I'm happy to do so. I'll only promote events that allow YOI rare ships -- doesn't have to be exclusively rare ship-focused, but I won't promote an exclusively Victor/Yuuri event, for example.

Also, the RSOI 2017 AO3 collection will be open indefinitely. If you're inspired, you're welcome to submit late gifts to the collection.

Finally, let's close this wrap-up with the most important bit: a round of thank yous.
Three cheers to the pinch hitters, the treaters, the betas, the cheerleaders, the signal boosters. Your help was invaluable. To the readers and commenters, for sharing the post-reveals love. And a tremendous thank you to everyone who signed up. I was blown away by everyone's enthusiasm and the amount of fantastic rare ship gifts you created. Thank you!

At last, the collection is revealed! Click here to enjoy all the new rare ship goodness.

You should have received an email linking to your gift or gifts. You can also check your gifts page here: archiveofourown.org/users/[YOUR USERNAME]/gifts

On the collection works page, you can use the sort/filter bar to find stuff you're interested in, but I'd also recommend just scrolling through all four pages and seeing what catches your eye! There's some really great stuff for a wide variety of ships, and you might find something you never even knew you needed.

Some reminders:
  • Remember to re-date your work so it shows up in the right spot in the fandom tags! See this post for details.
  • Commenting on your gift(s) is nice exchange etiquette, and is required for RSOI. See the rules post for details.
  • If you'll be away from the internet for a significant amount of time post-reveals, you can optionally drop a note about it at the I'll Be Away post.
  • If there's something wrong with your gift (meaning, it violates a DNW; doesn't meet the exchange minimum; or doesn't fit one of your requested ships or mediums) please email me ASAP at rareshipsonice@gmail.com.
Final note, I will be posting round-up link posts for each ship to the exchange tumblr over the course of the anon period -- so, one post linking all the SaraMila works, one post linking all the ChrisVic works, etc -- for a bit of extra signal boosting and easy browsing :)

"I'll Be Away" Post
If you know you'll be away from the internet for a while after reveals, and want to let your gifter know your comment will be delayed due to vacation/having a baby/crying about your thesis/prepping for your annual dark demonic ritual summoning/traveling to a work conference -- you can comment on this post to say so. Please note your AO3 name if it's different from the account you use here.

Basically, this is for "I'll be gone for a week or more" stuff, not "I'm asleep during reveals and at work the next day." It's also optional, either way.

Gift-Checking Update
I checked that all assigned gifts matched a ship and medium requested, and skimmed for placeholders. I also skimmed for DNWs. In the event that I missed something, please don't hesitate to email me after reveals and I will ensure you have a gift that matches your requests.

If you have multiple mod hits on your work, it probably means I forgot that I already checked it ;)

Anonymity
There will be a week-long anonymous period between work reveals and creator reveals. Please do not link to a tumblr, twitter, or other identifying account in your work notes. You can add links in after creator reveals on July 30 :)

Collection Status
All creators with extensions have turned in their gifts! This means we only have the post-deadline pinch hits pending, which are due this Friday, July 21. Everything looks in good shape to open the collection on time.
rsoi_mod: phichit and guang hong blushing (phichit guanghong)
I've closed the collection for a bit so I can sort through and default any un-filled assignments. It will be reopened shortly for further posting.

Works will be revealed next week, on Sunday, July 23 at 8 p.m. PDT. Creator reveals will be the following week. In the meantime, please stay tuned for post-deadline pinch hits! Or, consider spreading the rare ship love a bit more by finding someone to treat :)

Here is a bit more information about what happens next:

Any assignments still unfulfilled will be defaulted, and I'll post them as pinch hits here. Exceptions: if I've previously granted the creator an extension, or if the recipient has also defaulted. All extensions are due Tuesday, July 18, at 8 p.m.

I will be checking works for these things: whether they meet the exchange minimums; whether they match one of the recip's requested ships and mediums; whether the work is obviously unfinished (e.g. placeholder text). If I see a glaring issue, my first step will be contacting that creator at the email linked to their AO3 account with a deadline to fix it. If the work isn't fixed, I'll then default the assignment and send it out for pinch hitting.

If you're worried about not having a gift and don't see yourself go out to pinch hit, your creator probably has an extension. You're welcome to email me and I can check for you.

As always, if you have any questions, please email me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com.

Works are due this Sunday, July 16, at 8 p.m. PDT. (countdown). The collection will briefly close at that point so I can check for placeholders and incomplete assignments -- then it will reopen so treaters and pinch hitters can continue posting :)

See the previous heads-up post for more on how to post and what happens next.

Works are due this Sunday, July 16, at 8 p.m. PDT. (countdown). The collection will briefly close at that point so I can check for placeholders and incomplete assignments -- then it will reopen so treaters and pinch hitters can continue posting :)

The basics:
  • Post your finished work on AO3 by clicking on "Assignments" on your AO3 dash, finding your Rare Ships!!! on Ice assignment, and clicking "Fulfill."
  • Clicking it will take you to a "Post New Work" form with the exchange info pre-populated. You can check the "Associations" section to make sure the assignment's checked off, the collection's filled in, and your recipient's filled in.
  • Do not repost your work elsewhere (e.g. on tumblr, twitter, public forums) before creator reveals.
  • You can edit your work after posting it.
  • A saved draft does not count as a posted work. Make sure you have actually posted your work by the deadline.

While you can edit your work after posting, please have a complete work up by the deadline. You can be waiting on a final proofread or touch-up, but do not upload a placeholder gift or anything that would not be an acceptable gift if your recipient received it right then. I will be checking for obvious placeholders and gifts that don't meet the exchange minimum requirements.

Also, congratulations to those who've posted already! If you're looking for something to do next, consider finding someone to treat, or keep an eye out for any post-deadline pinch hits ;)

The no-fault default deadline is less than a day away -- Sunday, July 9 at 8 p.m. PDT. The general works deadline is exactly a week after. See the previous reminders post and the rules post for more details.

I won't be posting more reminders about the no-fault default deadline, but I will post 48-, 24-, and 1-hour warnings for the works deadline.

These pinch hits are due at the regular deadline -- Sunday, July 16 at 8 p.m. PDT. Anyone is welcome to claim a pinch hit, whether or not you're signed up for the exchange. You just need to have an AO3 account.

To claim a pinch hit, email me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com with A) your AO3 name and B) the number of the pinch hit you want to claim.

Pinch hits will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. If you get the pinch hit, I'll reply to your email and assign you on AO3. If you see the pinch hit marked as "claimed" and you haven't heard from me, somebody else got there first.

Hope assignments are going well! I have a few announcements:
  • I've contacted a few of you with questions from your creators. Please check your emails in case that's you :)
  • A small batch of pinch hits will go up at some point Monday (PDT).
  • The beta volunteer post is up, and you're reading it now!
Volunteer betas are a very valuable part of the exchange community. Anyone is welcome to volunteer, whether or not you're signed up for the exchange. Any degree of feedback you can offer is likely to be useful to somebody.

To volunteer, just comment on this post.

Required information:
  • Your AO3 name (unless you don't have one)
  • Mediums you can give feedback on (fanfic, fanart, and/or podfic)
  • How to contact you privately
Optional information:
  • Content you will not beta
  • Content you may or may not beta, but would like a warning about before starting
  • Any potentially relevant specialties you have (for example: experience with fic/art/podfic, languages, figure skating expertise, historical eras, etc.)
  • Type of feedback you can give (SPAG, structural edits, general reader/viewer/listener reactions, technical suggestions, brainstorming, cheerleading, etc.)
  • Date ranges you're available, and how much time before the deadline you'd need to turn around a beta job
  • Your preferred file formats
I strongly encourage participants to take advantage of the beta volunteer list, if you don't have another beta lined up already. Having another set of eyes or ears can be very helpful.

If you reach out to someone on the list, it can also be helpful to be upfront about the kind of feedback you're hoping to get. That way everyone's on the same page.

As always, if you have any questions, please email me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com.

Matching is complete, and it went really well! There are no creators without recipients, and there are no initial pinch hits. Good job being matchable, everyone.

On that note, assignments have been sent! You should have received an email from AO3 containing your assignment. You can also check your assignments on your AO3 dashboard, at this link: archiveofourown.org/users/[YOUR USERNAME]/assignments

Your assignment is due on Sunday, July 16 at 8 p.m. PDT. By that point, you need to complete and post a work in one of your recipient's requested mediums for one of their requested ships.

Review the Exchange Info post for the minimum work requirements, how to post, and how to default. If for any reason you're unable to complete your assignment, please default on AO3 as soon as you know.

If you have any questions about your assignment, please contact me at rareshipsonice@gmail.com. I can also convey any questions to your recipient. Please do not contact your recipient directly about their gift.

Dear Creator letters are optional! In the event you write a letter, posting it here is also optional. Your requests and letter links are already visible on the Requests Summary.

Comments on this post should be in approximately the following format:

AO3 Name:
Link to letter:
Mediums Requested:
Ships Requested:

Please do not post links to placeholder or private letters on this post! I'll delete links to unfinished/unavailable letters, so you can repost when you're finished.

Signups are still open through Monday, May 15 at 8 p.m. PST. (countdown) I've got a few notes and updates, based on questions I've received. Thanks everyone for reaching out!
  • There will be a letters post. Probably up around Friday, maybe Saturday.
  • There will be a beta volunteer post. This will go up after assignments are out.
  • I've updated the sign-up instructions with a reminder: please be mindful of the difference between & and / relationship tags. & means a platonic relationship, so you're requesting/offering genfic. / means a sexual and/or romantic relationship, so you're requesting/offering shipfic.
  • Comments on the rules post are now screened by default. I'll unscreen anything non-confidential/of general interest.

Signups Guidelines: Requests + Offers )
rsoi_mod: phichit and guang hong blushing (phichit guanghong)
We've ended up with 224 relationships in the tag set. Amazing! Stay tuned for sign-ups opening no later than May 5, 8 p.m. PST. If I can get everything together before that, they might open a bit early.

Tag set is here. Tag spreadsheet is here. I'll be sorting the spreadsheet into category tabs: M/M, F/F, M/F, Threesomes+, Crossovers, and Gen (these can overlap; for example, Victor/Evgeni will be both M/M and Crossover). Let me know if there are other categories you'd find useful.

And if you see any typos/duplicates/other errors in the tag set, please let me know.
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (chris yuuri)
If you want to be able to request or offer a ship, please double-check it's in the tag set. Ctrl+F is the easiest way to check both the tag set and the spreadsheet mirror.

Nominations instructions are here.

I'll close nominations tomorrow, May 2 at roughly 8 p.m. PST. (click for exact countdown.) I say "roughly" because I may be a bit late. I definitely won't be early :)
rsoi_mod: chris and yuuri pole-dancing (Default)
Medium Category Added: Podfic

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback on this! You'll now be able to offer and request anywhere from 1 to 3 mediums. I think I've altered all the rules/info accordingly, but please let me know if I missed anything.

Podfic notes: New text is not required, but is allowed. So you can either podfic an existing work, or write a new fic and also podfic it. It's up to offerers to make sure you're offering ships you'd personally be able to create podfic for.

Nominations Continue

We still have a week of nominations -- make sure the ships you want are in the tagset!

No new questions, but I've gone ahead and rejected the "Character &/ Everyone" nominations. I also accepted the other two as Yuri Plisetsky/Count D and Yuri Plisetsky/Nidai Nekomaru.
rsoi_mod: phichit and guang hong blushing (phichit guanghong)
Wow, this is one good-looking tagset already! Great work, everyone. I now come bearing various updates.

1. No-penalty Default Deadline

I've added a no-penalty default deadline to the info post. If you need to, you can still default at any point of the exchange, no explanation needed -- sometimes things just happen. However, if you default after July 9, you'll need to create an extra treat before participating in any future rounds.

2. Mediums Discussion

We've got some discussion over here about whether to add podfic and graphics as requestable mediums. If you have any feedback on that -- and on reasonable rules if we do include them -- I'd love to hear from you either on this post, that post, or via email.

3. Nomination Clarifications 1

If you're not familiar with AO3 nominations -- as the tagset owner, I can't see who nominated what. All I see are the nominated tags themselves, which I have the choice of accepting, rejecting, or editing+accepting. (You may have noticed me editing some of your tags -- usually to fit AO3 canonical order. This isn't because you did it wrong, it's just a habit for me.)

Since I can't see usernames, that means if I have questions about specific tags, I'll be making clarification posts like this to get more info. These posts are also good places to point out any typos or duplicate tags ;) You can answer on the post or via email.

This time, I just have four tags I'd like to ask the nominators about.

Georgi & Everyone
Chris & Everyone

I've been considering these, and have decided they're too broad. Are there more limited or more clearly defined groups you'd like to nominate instead?

Yuri Plisetsky/D (Petshop of Horrors)
Is this Count D, Papa D, or New D? I assume Count D, but want to double check.

Yuri Plisetsky/Nikaido Nekomaru (Super Dangan Ronpa 2)
A quick google didn't turn up a Nikaido Nekomaru. Can you confirm that's a character in that canon, or should this be Nidai Nekomaru? (Or someone else?)
